Why Flyers?

This is a golden age of marketing. Businesses can reach customers through dozens of ways: email, text messages, phone calls, radio and television advertising, as well as billboards, to name a few. So why is so much of it ineffective, and why do customers hate marketing so much?

A few reasons:

Some businesses choose to deliver to all addresses in a city, regardless of whether the customer is interested in the products offered, or not.

Some businesses send out marketing to their existing customer base, but overwhelm them with too many emails. This results in many potential buyers hitting 'unsubscribe', and companies losing business they would have otherwise had.

Businesses that cater exclusively to a local market (independent restaurants, plumbers, landscapers, dog walkers, realtors, etc.) find that digital marketing alone fails to cut through the 'noise'. How many mailing lists have you been persuaded to sign up for at the register, only to heartily regret it later? It's become in some ways too easy for businesses to bombard their audience with too many marketing emails, resulting in customers ignoring every marketing email they get.

This is the flyer difference:

A well-designed, thoughtfully-marketed flyer that understands the local market, will do better than something produced nationally for all customers. People often don't like flyers, and for good reason. Excessive flyers, or flyers that aren't relevant to them, are a failure in targeting by the business, and degrade the business's brand over time.

It's extremely possible to tie your physical and digital marketing together. Simply add a QR code on the flyer so you can see instant and targeted engagement with your company.

Flyers that are more precisely targeted succeed. A landscaper advertising their lawncare services will not get much business in December. Advertising in March and April, when people are beginning to think about sprucing up their gardens for spring, will likely do better. Also, a landscaper will have better success targeting single family homes (SFHs) than apartments. No yard = no need for a landscaper.

Changing Media Landscape

Postmedia announced this month they are discontinuing flyer services throughout Canada.

Before making that decision, Postmedia was poised to contract ATF Distributions Limited to carry out the flyer distribution for Saskatoon, Warman, and Martensville, starting in June this year.

ATF has the workforce and infrastructure in place to carry out the distribution without any interruption in service.

Call, text, or email Erin today to make plans for the transition - now anticipated at the end of July 2026.
